KURT ROSENWINKEL ’s career spans almost three decades collaborating with dynamic peers like Brad Mehldau, Brian Blade, Mark Turner, Joshua Redman, Chris Potter, and jazz elders like Joe Henderson, Paul Motian and Gary Burton. Rosenwinkel’s indelible mark in music is steeped in the rich and deep traditions of jazz, springing off of the shoulders of such vital underpinnings to elevate his own art to new heights, evolving the language in a way no other guitarist has since his arrival.

Kurt’s new project was inspired by Brasil’s music, rock and jazz, and yet is a highly personal while still genre-bending. The sextet is called CAIPI , as in Caipirinha, Brasil’s strangely intoxicating drink.

Kurt Rosenwinkel is an American jazz guitarist, composer, bandleader, producer, educator and record label owner. He is recognized worldwide as one of the most influential guitarists and composers of the turn of the century. Kurt’s music is deeply melodic and accessible while simultaneously working on the highest musical levels.

The first song came 10 years ago and Kurt was shocked at this new stream of music emerging from within him. As the years went by every once in a whilea new song would come and he would recognize it belonging to this new stream, which he began to call “Caipi”, as a shorthand for these songs that had something to do with Brazilian music and of course Caipiriias. Its deeply personal music with some brazilian influences, rock influences as well as jazz.

He learns from the music that comes through. So he has been working for these ten years on this album, recording the songs at home and doing everything he can to make this music live. Now, thanks to five amazing artist it’s possible to play the music everywhere, where will be wanted.

Pedro Martins is a self-taught guitarist and composer, considered one of the most promising musicians of the new generation. Using the guitar as his main instrument, in a more acoustic and portable shape, the musician also travels the world solo, presenting a new look over the eletric guitar in Brazil. Based on the brazilian essence, but with all his youthful universal contemporaneity.

After graduating with distinction from the University of Music in Stuttgart both in Jazz Piano and Classical Piano Olivia Trummer went on to pursue a Master's degree at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City and spent formative years dividing her time between New York City and Berlin. Despite her tender age, Olivia already possesses a remarkable discography of six albums with her original compositions, featuring herself as a pianist, composer, vocalist, songwriter and bandleader.

One of the greatest musicians of the new generation, the bass player and composer Frederico Heliodoro has been standing out in the current Brazilian and international music scene since 2007. Considered one of the most productive artists of his peer group, the bassist has just released his fifth album. Wherever he goes, Heliodoro captivates the audience with his music which is intense, virtuous, experimental and loaded with feeling, mixing his Brazilian nature with jazz and contemporary music.

Antonio Loureiro is part of the new generation of musicians from Minas Gerais. Brazilian traditional music, classical, contemporary jazz, popular chamber music, rock, are all part of his musical universe. All these influences apears in his work as composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist and arranger. With 15 years of career, has performed in several Brazilian states and also in USA, Europe and Asia.

Brooklyn based drummer Bill Campbell has performed and recorded with many great artists, including Meshell N’Degeocello, Andrew Bird, Lauren Hill, Norah Jones, Joel Frahm, Robin McKelle, Charlie Hunter, Bobby Watson, Rodney Whitaker, Alan Hampton, Nate Wood, Ryan Scott and Josh Mease.
